Research focus:

My hydrocephalus interest is to develop an inexpensive and effective diagnostic tool to improve hydrocephalus treatment outcomes, especially in the neonatal population in the developing worlds. With my strong background of optical imaging, I have used advanced near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) technology to non-invasively measure cerebral blood flow (CBF) and cerebral oxygen metabolism (CMRO2) in hydrocephalus newborns to monitor the severity of hydrocephalus and the treatment response. In collaboration with Dr. Benjamin Warf at Boston Children’s Hospital, we focused on the efficacy of endoscopic third ventriculostomy combined with choroid plexus cauterization (ETV/CPC) in infants. We believe our NIRS-measured CBF and CMRO2 can serve as biomarkers related to hydrocephalus condition which would have great clinical benefit and immediately improve patient care in both the developed and developing world.
