My group has been working on glial development using C. elegans. We recently identified a set of genes affecting development of a glial cell type that resembles vertebrate radial glia. Interestingly, the homologs of these genes are implicated in congenital hydrocephalus, leading us to the idea that our system can be used to understand how defects in development of radial glia (the precursors of ependymal cells) lead to hydrocephalus.
