Research focus:

Building on our previous extensive research into causes and pathogenic mechanisms of shunt /EVD infections, including the Bactiseal shunt/EVD catheter, we are developing a second generation antimicrobial catheter to address the increasing number of infections due to multiresistant gram negative bacteria including Acinetobacter. This catheter shows at least 4 weeks of activity against all the multiresistant bacteria tested in flow conditions in vitro, and we have shown in preliminary small animal experiments that is is safe for CNS use. We now intend to gain further neurobiocompatibility data and in vivo bacterial challenge data using a larger animal model.
