Hello, my name is Frederick Missel. I am currently doing a research project at Embry Riddle Aeronautical University. I was born with hydrocephalus and for as long as I could remember I was advised that I could not travel to space. Since I was told that, I made it my purpose to find the physical limitations of a shunt and to definitely prove that people with my condition could or could not go to space.
At my university my team and I are launching 4 Polaris Shunts into space. The purpose of the study is to determine whether micro-gravity has any effects on the functionality of a shunt. Since starting the project several months ago we have received 4 SPVA shunts and have created a partnership with doctors from Columbia University and New York Presbyterian hospital. In addition, we have secured a spot on a rocket.
