Research focus:

Germinal matrix hemorrhage-intraventricular hemorrhage (GMH-IVH) is a significant cause of morbidity and mortality in the pre-term infant. Forty percent of pre-term infants with IVH go on to develop post-hemorrhagic hydrocephalus (PHH) and have worse neuro-outcomes. Twenty five percent of kids will require life-long neurosurgical treatment at substantial cost. The goal of our research is to discover drug targets in neonatal IVH to either slow down or stop the progression of IVH to PHH and to make hydrocephalus a pharmacologically treated disease, rather than solely a neurosurgically treated disease.
