Research focus:

We are interested in the cellular and molecular consequences of ventricle enlargement and associated periventricular edema. Demise of the ependymal cell lining of the ventricles has the potential to result in defective transependymal bulk flow mechanisms responsible for clearance of harmful metabolites. Our work uses rodent models of blast TBI, repeated mild TBI and human MRI scans and biological tissue to examine astrogliosis that occurs at the ventricle surface with the goal to understand how defective CSF/ISF dynamics and accumulation of harmful metabolic byproducts affects brain functions.
